The project explores the replacement of an existing building under contemporary densification requirements. Following the logic of the urban situation and legal constraines, the proposed volume with four floors extends from party wall to south where it meets the existing row of buildings. The volumetry adopts the existing building depth and then develops independently on both the street and garden sides forming a free configuration. The possibility of working with the existing terrain slop allow for developing an independent garden level. The four units in each building are acesses by a compact staircase that provides access to all apartments. The regular-floor units extend towards either an outer or inner corner of the volume, allowing for multiple orientations and views toward both the street and the garden. At the center of each apartment, a multifunctional space with a loggia enables a range of scenarios for its use dependend on their inhabitants. Spatially, this two spaces are articulated as a summer room and are differentiated in its appearance from the rest of the apartment. The upper floors are constructed primarily in timber frame construction with cross-laminated timber slabs, while the ground level is built in massive massive, load-bearing construction.
